Crime Scene Investigations: Fact and Fiction
Was it the tiny fiber from Miss Scarlett’s gown stuck to the bloody candlestick that led to her arrest? Or did Professor Plum’s uncontrolled sneeze on the conservatory piano give him away? How do crime scene investigators really solve murders and put criminals behind bars? This course will show students the basic principles of forensic science, including body fluid analysis, fingerprints, hair and fiber analysis, handwriting, DNA, toxicology, and entomology. Students will conduct hands-on experiments to practice the most common types of analysis and will learn evidence collection and crime scene processing. At the end of the course, students will map out a crime scene and solve a murder mystery using the various forensic techniques.
