On the Front Line: The Battle Against Cancer

 

Radiation Therapists provide direct patient care using highly specialized technology in the direct irradiation of cancer cells.  This course will provide the student with cutting edge experience in discussing the scientific advancements that improve the effectiveness of cancer treatment.  Students will be given hands-on opportunities to treat virtual patients at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center on the only full-immersive 3-D Vertual Radiation Therapy Simulator in the United States.  Students will also receive a behind-the-scenes tour of the Proton Therapy treatment facility.   Principles of radiation physics, radiobiology and multi-modal cancer treatment will be explored.  Experience the emerging technology which provides direct patient care and battling on the front lines against cancer.
